Zamyn-Uud in Mongolia has suspended customs clearance for trucks since March 23, mainly due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country, according Chinese Embassy in Mongolia. It was still unclear when the border crossing would reopen.

China's Ganqimaodu saw 2 trucks pass
through the border on Apr 7, down from 16 trucks on Apr 6 and a slight recovery
from 0 during Apr 1-5. Coal washing plants in Jinquan Industrial Park near the border
have been allowed to resume production, but some washing plants still suspended
production due to inefficient raw coal supplies.

Global power generation depends increasingly less on fossil fuels more on renewables,
2020 saw 260 GW newly-installed renewable energy capacity, increasing 50% from
the previous year, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency.

Coal-rich Colombia exported 7.83 million
tonnes of coal in February 2021, rising 3.2% year on year and surging 90.44%
month on month, showed data from Colombia National Department Administrative of
Statistics.

To curb fast rise in thermal coal prices, several measures will be adopted including boosting coal production by providing quotas to miners in line with the highest output in the winter, enhancing the delivery of long-term contracts and taking the right rhythm of coal imports to serve domestic economy, according to a meeting held by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on April 7.

Ganqimaodu partly reopened coal imports
from Mongolia with 16 coal trucks go through on March 6. Chinese buyers are
expected to show limited buying interest amid the uncertainty of fully recovery
of customs clearance given the severe situation of the pandemic in Mongolia.

To support coal exports, Mongolia's Mining
and Heavy Industry Ministry is preparing to submit a proposal to the cabinet
meeting on April 13 that the country will use containers to export coal through
Shiveekhuren border crossing to China.

The situation that coal remains as the main
source of primary energy in China will no change during the 14th Five-Year Plan
period (2021-25), said Wang Xianzhen, Honorary President of China National Coal
Association.

Colombia's coal exports were 7.38 million
tonnes in February, up 3.2% year on year and 90.44% month on month, data from
the country's national statistics office. Export value reached $445 million,
down 3.45% year on year but up 77.17% month on month.

India's March coal imports from 12 state-run ports came in at 15 million tonnes, rising 0.46% from 14.93 million tonnes a year ago and surging 28.9% from 11.64 million tonnes in February, hitting a 23-month high since May 2019, showed data from Indian Ports Association.

Daily output of crude steel at Chinese key
steel mills declined 0.16% on Mar 31 compared with previous 10 days, showed
data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA). These steel mills produced 2.21 Mt of crude steel averagely each day during late March (March 21-31), rising
20.98% YoY.

All 55 wind turbines of Zhuhai Jinwan offshore wind farm project under Guangdong Energy Group were connected to the grid and started power generation on April 2. It is currently the largest offshore wind farm in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
